My daughter has just started her first year of MBBS. As we navigate this challenging phase, I would love to hear from other parents about how you are helping your children manage the intense academic pressure and study load. Any tips or advice on how to support them during these initial months would be greatly appreciated!

Keep her vitamin D and B12 levels checked, as many MBBS students become severely deficient during these initial months of library-hopping. My son is in his final year and he struggled a lot with sleep initially; suggest you try to encourage her to keep a consistent sleep cycle instead of pulling all-nighters, as that really helps with memory retention in anatomy. Does she have a good peer group there yet?

Has she joined any online study groups yet? My nephew found those very useful for sharing resources and notes.

Congratulations to your daughter! My daughter is in her 3rd year now, and the biggest mistake I made in the first few months was constantly asking her about her marks. My advice is to stop focusing on the exam results for now and just ensure she eats home-cooked food or fruits regularly, as the hostel mess food is really draining. Just be a sounding board for her, don't lecture her on how much to study because she is already feeling the pressure.

Congratulations to your daughter! My son is in his final year now, and the first year is definitely the toughest because of Anatomy. My biggest advice is to ensure she gets proper home-cooked food and doesn't rely too much on canteen stuff, as health takes a backseat very quickly. Don't push her to call home daily; let her find her rhythm with the library hours first.

Just keep her motivated. It is a marathon, not a sprint.

Tell her to focus on standard textbooks like BD Chaurasia from day one instead of relying only on lecture notes. The pressure is immense, so just be a listening ear when she calls, even if she is just venting about the sheer volume of diagrams to memorize. Does her college have a mentor-mentee program? That helped my daughter quite a bit.

Just give her space and stay patient, it gets better after the first professional exams!

My daughter used to struggle with the sheer volume of the syllabus in her first year. I suggest you try sending her some high-protein snacks or dry fruits that she can munch on during late-night study sessions. Also, remind her that it is okay to get average marks initially; the transition from school to medical college is quite a shock for most kids.
