· Bengaluru2d agoWe recently shifted from Delhi, and I was also concerned about this. Our school principal mentioned that while it is mandatory till 10th, they are being flexible with the assessment process for students joining from other states. Just make sure to check if your school has a specific exemption policy for new admissions.

· Bengaluru2d agoIt is mandatory, no two ways about it. Most schools are just complying to avoid issues with the education department. My niece is in 10th and she’s managing, so it shouldn't be a dealbreaker for you.

· Bengaluru1d agoYes, it is definitely mandatory now under the Kannada Language Learning Act. My daughter is in Grade 9 in an ICSE school in Whitefield, and they have introduced a specific 'Kannada Kali' curriculum for non-native speakers, which is quite manageable. Don't worry too much, as the school ensures the marking scheme is lenient for those struggling with the language.

· Bengaluru1d agoIn our CBSE school, they’ve made it compulsory from Grade 1 up to Grade 10. Honestly, it’s a good initiative for kids to learn the local language, but the pressure of an extra language subject can be a lot during board exam years. Is anyone else worried about the impact on the overall percentage?

· Bengaluru1d agoYes, it is definitely mandatory now across all boards including ICSE and CBSE. My daughter is in Grade 9 in a CBSE school here in Bangalore, and she has to attend Kannada classes as a second language. The curriculum is quite rigorous now compared to earlier years, and even the board exams have specific papers for it. I would suggest you check the school's specific curriculum policy because some schools offer different 'levels' of Kannada depending on whether the child is a native speaker or a learner.

· Bengaluru1d agoMy son is in a private international school and they have been quite strict about it. They started compulsory classes from this academic year, but the teaching quality depends a lot on the teachers. I would suggest you check if your school offers it as a second language or third language option, as that makes a big difference in the workload.

· Bengaluru1d agoIt's strictly enforced now, so don't count on any exceptions. My nephew's school tried to bypass it last year but got a notice from the education department, so they had to start classes immediately.

· Bengaluru7h agoOur school just sent out a circular confirming that Kannada is now a compulsory subject up to Grade 10 as per the state government directive. My son is in Grade 8 and honestly, he finds it a bit challenging since we are not a Kannada-speaking household, but the teachers are being very supportive. Are you worried about the difficulty level for your child, or are you just checking the compliance aspect?
