Query regarding fee structure based on grade and subjects

Hi everyone, I wanted to clarify how the school fees are calculated. Is it strictly based on the grade level, or does it vary depending on the number of classes and specific subjects a student has chosen? Would appreciate any insights from parents who have navigated this before.

In our school, it is strictly grade-based. I have never seen them charge differently for the number of subjects because the curriculum is standard for everyone. Suggest you check the school prospectus or reach out to the admin office directly to avoid any surprises.

It really depends on the school's policy. When my son moved to IB board, the fees were definitely subject-based because of the specific lab requirements and smaller class sizes for electives. Are you asking about a private school or a CBSE one? The structure can be quite different.

Usually, the base tuition is fixed per grade, but elective subjects like Robotics or specialized sports coaching are charged separately. My daughter is in Grade 9 at DPS and we pay a flat fee, but the extra-curricular workshops are billed term-wise depending on her enrollment. I suggest checking your school’s latest fee circular on the parent portal.

In most schools I have seen, it is a flat fee structure until Grade 8. From Grade 9 onwards, some private schools start adding 'lab fees' or 'subject-specific charges' if your child opts for subjects like Computer Science or Fine Arts. Best to ask the accounts department for a detailed breakdown.

Hi, usually in most CBSE/ICSE schools, the base tuition fee is fixed per grade. However, if your child opts for extra subjects like Fine Arts, Computer Science lab fees, or specialized coaching for competitive exams in 11th and 12th, those are billed separately under 'enrichment charges'. My daughter is in Grade 9 and we pay a flat quarterly fee, but the extra subject fees only kicked in once she started taking extra classes for Math Olympiads.

It really depends on the school's board. If you are looking at international schools (IB/IGCSE), they often have a base fee plus 'elective fees' based on the subject groups you pick. My son is in Grade 11 and his fees are significantly higher than when he was in Grade 10 because of the lab-heavy subjects he chose this year. Have you checked if your school has a separate fee breakdown available on their parent portal?

I have navigated this with two kids in different streams. Generally, the core tuition is fixed, but if you choose a school that offers Cambridge or IB, the subject choices drastically change the fee quote because of resource requirements. Have you already spoken to the admission office, or are you just doing your initial research?

Check the fee receipt carefully, sometimes they hide the subject-specific charges under 'activity fees'. We faced this issue last year!
