Tips for coaching kids for Olympiad exams?

I am a certified Olympiad teacher and a gold medalist myself. I’m interested in starting some coaching for the kids in our community to help them prepare for upcoming exams. Does anyone have advice on how to structure these sessions, or is there enough interest among other parents here to form a small study group? Would love to hear your thoughts or suggestions on how to get this started.

Please count me in. It’s better to start early, but ensure you group the kids by grade level because the syllabus gap between 3rd and 5th is quite huge.

My experience with Olympiads has been that consistency is key. We found that solving past 5 years' papers helps more than any textbook, so maybe focus your curriculum around that? Also, please keep the timings on weekends as weekdays are already packed with music and sports classes.

That is wonderful news. I suggest you try using past year papers as your primary resource rather than extra textbooks, as the actual exam pattern is very specific. Do you have a plan for how you will handle different grade levels, or will it be a mixed-age group?

This is a great initiative! My daughter is in 4th grade and struggles a bit with the logical reasoning section. Do you plan to cover SOF or SilverZone patterns, and will you be providing any practice sheets for home revision?

Thanks for offering this. What is the fee structure you are thinking of, and will it be online or offline? My boy really needs some extra guidance for the math olympiad specifically.

Count us in! How many days a week are you planning to hold these sessions, and will they be online or in-person? My daughter is preparing for the IMO this year and we would definitely prefer a small group setting so she gets some individual attention for her weak areas.

This is a great initiative! My son is in Grade 4 and he finds the logical reasoning section quite tricky, so maybe you could include a dedicated module for that? I have seen that many kids struggle with time management during the actual SOF exams, so please ensure you conduct mock tests under strict time limits to build their speed.

I am definitely interested! My son is very bright but he gets anxious during time-bound tests. I suggest you keep the sessions interactive rather than just theory-heavy so the kids don't feel like it's another school class.
