Hi everyone! We are currently finalizing school options for our 5-year-old and would love to hear from parents whose kids are already attending. What has your experience been like so far? Any pros or cons we should keep in mind before making the final decision? Thanks in advance for your help!

Definitely look for schools that balance extracurriculars with academics. My nephew is in a school that is too focused on rote learning and he barely has any energy left for sports by the evening. Choose a campus that has a good playground, it makes a world of difference for a 5-year-old.

Check the student-teacher ratio in the nursery wing. My son is in a school with a 1:15 ratio and the individual attention he gets is fantastic, which really helped him pick up reading faster than we expected.

I would suggest you visit the school during their dispersal time. You will get a real sense of how the staff interacts with the kids and how chaotic or organized the management actually is. We did this for our son and it helped us cross one school off our list immediately.

Hi! My daughter is in Grade 1 at DPS. Honestly, the academics are quite strong, but do check the bus route beforehand as that’s the biggest pain point for us. Also, make sure to ask them how they handle the transition for the little ones in the first month, as that initial settling period is very crucial.

Have you considered the commute? Please don't pick a school just because of the brand name. Spending 1.5 hours in a van every day is very tiring for a 5-year-old, so prioritize proximity to your home first.
