· Bengaluru2d agoMy son struggled with the same issue last year. We stopped using the textbook for a month and enrolled him in a basic Vedic Math crash course just to build his confidence. Once his mental math speed improved, he started finding the RS Aggarwal exercises much more manageable. Maybe try that?

· Bengaluru1d agoActually, the problem isn't the book, it's the lack of conceptual clarity. Have you checked out the Khan Academy videos? My daughter watches those before attempting the exercise, and it has made a world of difference. It's free and better than any private tutor.

· Bengaluru1d agoIf the basics are weak, Class 5 book won't help because the curriculum changes significantly by Class 7. Focus on NCERT first—if your child can solve every single problem in the NCERT textbook, then RS Aggarwal will be a breeze. Don't rush into extra books yet.

· Bengaluru1d agoWe faced the exact same nightmare! I ended up hiring a tutor for two days a week just to sit with him while he solves the RS Aggarwal problems. It’s expensive, but it prevents the tears during homework time. Are you using the solution manual for reference?

· Bengaluru11h agoDon't go back to Class 5, it will only confuse the child and demotivate them. RS Aggarwal is definitely tough, but it is standard for most CBSE schools. I suggest you get the RD Sharma foundation series instead; it explains the concepts much better than RS, which is more focused on rote practice.
