· Bengaluru2d agoMy advice is to not treat it as just another subject to pass. We started hiring a home tutor twice a week for my son, and it has really helped him settle in. The law is definitely strict, so it is better to embrace it early rather than fighting it.

· Bengaluru1d agoDon't worry too much, the syllabus for non-native learners is usually quite elementary. My niece just finished her 10th board in an ICSE school here, and the Kannada paper was very manageable. Just make sure you get the right textbooks early as stocks run out fast.

· Bengaluru1d agoHi, in our school, the management is strictly enforcing the 2015 Act. My daughter is in Grade 6 and they have made it mandatory to take Kannada as the 2nd language, even for those moving from ICSE to state board. Better to check with your principal directly as some schools are offering it as a basic language paper rather than a full-fledged 2nd language to ease the burden.

· Bengaluru1d agoIs it actually mandatory for CBSE schools too? I was under the impression they were getting some exemptions, but the confusion is real. My son is struggling with the script, and I am worried about his overall percentage if the curriculum gets too heavy.

· Bengaluru14h agoI have seen that most schools in Bangalore have started complying fully this year to avoid legal issues with the department. If your child is new to the state, definitely ask the school for the 'Kannada Kali' or equivalent remedial classes. Most schools are providing extra support for non-Kannada speakers now.
