Hi everyone, I am currently in the middle of school admissions and feeling quite torn between the options. For those who have already gone through this process, which school did you eventually pick and what were the main factors that helped you make the final decision? Would love to hear your experiences and advice.

Please look beyond the fancy infrastructure and AC classrooms. I suggest you try to speak with parents whose kids are currently in Grade 3 or 4, as that is when the real academic pressure starts. My daughter is in DPS, and while the facilities are great, the teacher-student ratio is a bit high for my liking.

For us, the biggest factor was the commute. We narrowed it down to two schools with similar academic reputations, but chose the one just 15 minutes away because Bangalore traffic is a nightmare for a 5-year-old. Trust me, spending two hours on a bus daily takes a toll on their energy levels for evening tuitions or sports.

I have seen so many parents stressing over the brand name, but honestly, it comes down to the class teacher. Go for the school orientation and see how the staff interacts with the kids; that's your best indicator of the culture. Which area are you looking in, by the way?

We followed the 'near home' rule too, but don't ignore the board curriculum. We specifically wanted an ICSE school as we feel the foundation is stronger for competitive exams later on. It’s a personal call, but do check the school's results from the last three years.

Honestly, don't overthink it. Most schools in the city are equally good until secondary school. Just pick the one where your child gets a spot and you don't have to break the bank for the annual fees!
