Clarification on CBSE Best of 5 policy and IT subjects

Hi everyone, I’ve been hearing a lot lately about CBSE implementing the 'Best of 5' rule, including IT subjects in the count. Could someone confirm if this is official now? I’m a bit confused about how it works and whether it applies to all grades. Would love to hear from parents who have more clarity on this. Thanks!

Don't worry too much about the policy, just focus on the core subjects first. Even if IT is included in the best of five, universities sometimes ask for the marks of all subjects during admission, so it is safer not to take IT lightly.

Hi, this is correct. My daughter is in Class 10 and her school recently confirmed that IT is being considered as the 6th subject. If the student scores less in one of the main five subjects, the IT marks will automatically replace the lower score to improve the overall percentage. It is definitely a relief for the kids!

Yes, it is official for board exams. Just make sure you check with your school coordinator because some schools have different elective combinations. My son opted for IT, and it really helped boost his aggregate last year.

I have seen the circular from CBSE, and yes, it works by swapping the lowest mark among the core subjects with the IT score. However, this is only applicable if IT is offered as a skill subject in your school. I suggest you try looking at the official CBSE academic website for the exact list of skill subjects covered.

Does this rule apply to Class 9 as well, or is it strictly for the Boards? I am quite worried about my son's math grades this term.
