Confusion regarding EVS grading

In my child's school, they start teaching Science and Social Studies as separate subjects from 3rd grade. However, when the report cards come out, they still combine the marks under one EVS heading. Is this the case in your kids' schools too? I'm trying to understand why they keep the grading combined even after the curriculum splits.

My son is in grade 4 and they have completely separate report cards now. If your school is still combining them, maybe you should check if it's just for the term exams or the final result too? It might be worth dropping an email to the class teacher.

This is very common in most CBSE schools. I think they prefer keeping the 'EVS' label to reduce the burden of subject headers on the report card until middle school. Honestly, as long as you know which subject he is struggling in, don't worry too much about the grading format.

In my daughter's school, they follow the same pattern till 5th grade. The teachers told us it’s because the internal assessments are still conducted as a single EVS project, even if the syllabus is split. It’s quite confusing for the kids because they prep for two different subjects but get one grade.

My niece's school does the same. I have seen that even when they combine the marks, the teachers usually provide a detailed breakdown in the remarks column. Have you checked the back of the report card for a subject-wise split?

Is this happening in every term or just the mid-terms? At our school, they started giving separate marks for Science and SST from this year. You should definitely bring this up in the next PTM, as the kids deserve to know their individual performance.
