Hi everyone, I am interested in knowing more about the role of a school parent representative. Does anyone know what the selection process is like or what the responsibilities involve? I would love to hear from other parents who have taken on this role in the past. Any advice or information on how to get started would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, it can be a bit thankless sometimes! You become the go-to person for every small complaint, so make sure you have the patience to handle other parents' anxiety. Are you planning to run for the PTA or just the class level?

I suggest you try to maintain a neutral stand when communicating with the school management. It is a good way to stay involved in your child's schooling, but try to set boundaries early so you don't end up answering queries at 10 PM every night.

Usually, the class teacher just asks for volunteers during the first PTM of the year. If you are interested, just raise your hand then and there. It helped me get to know the teachers much better!

Hi, I was the class rep for my daughter’s section last year. It’s mostly about coordinating between the teacher and the other parents for events like Annual Day costumes or field trips. Just email the class teacher expressing your interest early in the term; they usually pick someone who is active in the WhatsApp group and easy to reach.

My son is in 4th grade and our school usually sends a nomination form via the school app in April. Just a tip: be ready to handle a lot of messages, especially when teachers want to convey quick updates about uniform changes or project deadlines.
