Are there any sketching classes available for kids?

I suggest you try the sketching workshop at the community center. My son started there last month and his fundamentals have really improved, plus it is very affordable compared to private studios.

My niece goes to an art studio near the main market. They focus quite a bit on pencil shading and charcoal sketches, which my niece loves. It’s a bit of a drive, but definitely worth the commute for the quality of guidance they provide.
