Is Commerce required for this finance-related course?

I've heard that most people in this field study Commerce since the finance knowledge is essential, but I'm not entirely sure. Does anyone have more insight? It might be worth checking with an educational consultant or reaching out to colleges directly. I believe some colleges in Mumbai offer this, but it would be great to get some advice from the community.

It depends on the college, honestly. Some top Mumbai colleges like HR and Jai Hind do give a slight preference to Commerce students during the merit list process because of the subject overlap. Have you checked if your child needs math as a mandatory subject for the specific course?

My daughter is currently in NMIMS for BBA, and honestly, having Commerce in 11th and 12th made her life so much easier. She didn't have to struggle with the basics of accounts or economics while others were still trying to understand the fundamentals. If your child is serious about finance, I strongly suggest opting for Commerce early on.

Why not try a professional course like CA foundation alongside? My nephew did science but eventually switched to finance, and he told me the lack of accountancy background was a major hurdle. Don't risk it, stick to Commerce.

I have seen many students from Science moving into finance, so it’s not strictly 'required' by law, but it definitely helps build a strong foundation. You should definitely speak to the admission office of the colleges in Mumbai before finalizing the 11th-grade stream.

I totally agree with others here. My son is in his final year of B.Com and he says the syllabus is much more manageable if you've done the core subjects in junior college. It just builds the right mindset for finance.
